We are excited to share some important updates regarding income withholding tax requirements for authors contributing paid content to Quaily. These updates aim to streamline tax processes and ensure compliance with local and international tax regulations.
1. No More Withholding Tax
After discussions with the Japanese tax authorities this month, we are pleased to inform you that authors are no longer required to pay withholding tax. This change will simplify the payment process and reduce the administrative burden for authors on our platform.
2. Refund of Previously Deducted Withholding Taxes
For authors who had withholding tax deducted from their earnings in the past, you will be refunded in 2025. Once the refund is successfully processed, the previously withheld amounts will be returned to you.
3. Responsibility to Pay Income Tax in Your Residency Region
While withholding tax is no longer applicable, it is crucial for authors to understand that you are still required to comply with the income tax regulations of your residency region. Please consult with your local tax authority or a tax advisor to ensure you fulfill your tax obligations based on your specific situation.
4. Submission of Merchant Information for Paid Content
To maintain compliance with Japanese regulatory requirements, all authors offering paid content must submit their merchant information through our platform. Please visit the following link to complete the necessary steps:
For the authors who have more than one List, access the Dashboard, and then click Settings - Monetization - Merchant Information to fill in the information.
We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we implement these changes. Our goal is to create a seamless and compliant experience for all authors on our platform. If you have any questions or require further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact our support team.
