一、科学家真不这样
本人最近在尝试寻找香港读博的机会，翻看了”港五“CS 和 EE 专业所有老师的主页，发现除了展示研究兴趣、发表的论文、主持的项目等等很高大上很严肃的东西，很多老师的主页还展示了不少非常有趣的东西。或者换一种说法，很多老师不仅学习和搞科研很厉害，还德智体美劳全面发展！
（一）最有趣的 Profile Picture
别的老师的图片要么是穿着正装拍的证件照，要么是上课或者在讲座上发言的照片，要么是旅游时拍的游客打卡照，但是吴兆鸿老师的照片竟然是有一点搞怪的 GIF 图！
（二）最文青的老师
- 周卓之 讲师
I have been away from CUHK for a dozen years for my postgraduate studies in HKUST researching in computer music, after finishing my undergraduate in CUHK Computer Engineering with a minor in Music.
周卓之老师在本科阶段主修计算机，辅修音乐，之后做的研究也与计算机音乐相关，他在学术个人主页上是这样给自己打标签的：

除了 学术主页，周老师甚至有一个 音乐主页！上面展示了老师参与过的音乐项目，在音乐主页的 Biography 页面，老师是这样介绍自己的：
除為合唱團伴奏外，周氏現於數個樂團負責鋼琴或敲擊。作為鋼琴重奏 Duetissimo 、合奏小組 The Music Circles 及敲擊小組無間斷打擊樂團的創團成員，他常與團員四出演奏。周氏熱衷劇場音樂，曾以樂隊領班身份演出包括 Urinetown (2017)、Bugsy Malone (2018)、Annie Jr. (2019)、Les Misérables (2021)、Cats (2021) 等音樂劇，並於香港科技大學每年的夏日音樂劇中擔任指導、排練伴奏或演出樂手等崗位，參與了從 Guys and Dolls (2012) 至 Wonderful Town (2021) 每年的製作。他亦參與一些本地音樂劇現場樂隊，包括《我們的青春日誌》(2019) 及《穿Kenzo的女人》(2021) 等。

老师的 个人主页 有一个 Leisure 页面不仅展示了老师的画，还有老师的钢琴独奏作品！比如由老师弹奏的 Four Little Swans。

（三）最幽默的老师
因为 John C.S. Lui 教授的 个人主页 有展示他收集的 笑话，真的！
H. L. Mencken's Law:
Those who can -- do.
Those who can't -- teach.

Those who cannot teach -- administrate.
（四）最像个人博客的个人网站
网站不止记录了很学术的东西，比如“Research Publications, Projects and Awards”之类的，还记录了教授自己收藏的超链接、亲人介绍、游记。
不过看了教授的研究方向和兴趣之后，点进教授的亲人介绍，网站显示的信息由论文列表，变成有照片有日期的亲人介绍，感觉有一点奇怪。学习经历、发表的论文、主持的项目……这些都是很严肃很学术的信息，印象中能接触到这些信息的线下场合是讲座或者学术报告，而涉及亲人介绍的线下场合更多是很私密的聚餐。但是两种截然不同的信息，两种理应在不同场合才能接触到的信息，在同一个网站里面出现了，而且入口的超链接还离得很近，it is weird。
（五）最贴合自身研究特点的个人网站
- Tien Tsin Wong 教授的 个人主页
教授的部分 research interests 包括 computational manga、precomputed lighting、image-based rendering，而教授的 个人主页 是由教授自己设计的，整体特点也是灰蒙蒙和粗糙的。网站背景不是白色，而是像油画布一样的图案，也像被用 PS 的浮雕效果处理过一样。下图是教授一篇论文的演示 GIF 图，而教授个人主页的风格就和这张图片的很像。
（六）最详细的介绍信条件和细节
I am more than happy to write recommendation letters for you if you meet one of the following conditions:
you have worked on a research project with me targeting at a serious publication;
you have worked on FYP, summer research, or MSc project under my supervision, and received the grade of A- or above;
you have taken at least one course from me and received the grade of A.
愿意帮学生写介绍信的老师不多，愿意在网站上表明自己愿意写介绍信的老师就更少了，这么详细地写明条件和细节的老师更是不多见！而且，感觉老师的要求很合理很友好，并不是那么高不可攀。
（七）最详细的联系指南
While prior experience of working with me is not required, it's preferred if you start with a small project under my supervision. This helps us get to know about each other and decide whether we want to keep working together in the long run. So, I encourage you to contact me at least 6 months before application with the following information:
1. Skim the publications list to see what I work on. Find some papers that look interesting, read their abstracts, and pick one to read it through. If you're still interested, send me an email with your CV and briefly explain what you learned from that paper (use your own words - don't just simply summarize the paper). Title that email "HCI PhD Applicant - [Your Name]," and we can start a conversation from there.

很详细的联系指南，一开始看的时候甚至感觉不像是老师写给学生的，反而像是师姐写给师弟师妹的。
（八）最具活力的老师
- 朱剑豪 教授
教授的 个人主页 不但有教授和实验器材的合照，还有教授游泳和打羽毛球的照片。教授的介绍最后一段是这样的：
He is active in amateur sports and was Honorary Manager of the City University of Hong Kong varsity badminton and swimming teams from 1998 to 2021. He has won men's singles, men's doubles, mixed doubles, and teams' events several times in CityU Student/Staff badminton tournaments. In swimming, he holds three current City University of Hong Kong staff records, held one CityU staff swimming record from 2001 to 2012, co-held two Hong Kong masters swimming records from 1998/1999 to 2006, and won more than 100 medals in Hong Kong masters swimming competitions.
- 吴大鹏 教授
教授的 个人主页 有一个 Leisure 页面，里面记录了教授的各种爱好，最醒目的是教授跑马拉松的记录！
On 5/4/2002, I ran a marathon for 3 hours 57 minutes in Pittsburgh, PA.
On 11/10/04, I ran a marathon for 4 hours 18 minutes in Gainesville, FL.
On 2/19/06, I ran a marathon race for 3:27:08 in Gainesville, FL, (half marathon of which takes 1:35:10). Lost 2.6 pounds in weight. The temperature is from 7 to 14 degrees Celsius. Drizzling. Had a spasm in my leg after 18 miles.

The key to success is keeping yourself motivated. In my view, long-distance running is an effective way to stay motivated and improve mental toughness.

（九）最”Must“的老师
- Minghao Wang 老师
这位老师招收学生的条件有点严苛。
Postdoc/RA applicants must be graduated from the world’s top 150 universities/institute or the related majors rank the top 150 (applicants with outstanding research outputs will be admitted exceptionally, Applicants from Mainland China must be graduated from 985/211 universities/institutes).
其他老师的招生条件一般写的都是，如果毕业自好学校，会优先考虑。但这位老师的招生条件使用了两处”must“，大概是老师很着急出成果吧。
